Research consistently shows that CPR and first aid skills deteriorate rapidly after training — studies suggest retention can fall significantly within just months. The HSE's guidance on first aid explicitly states: "Employers should consider refresher training at appropriate intervals to ensure that workers who are first aiders maintain their competency."
Annual refresher training also ensures your first aiders stay current with any changes to guidelines (CPR guidance is periodically updated by the Resuscitation Council UK) and maintains their confidence to act in an emergency.
