What is First Aid at Work (FAW)?

First Aid at Work (FAW) is the gold-standard workplace first aid qualification in the UK. Approved by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), this 3-day course provides delegates with the comprehensive knowledge and hands-on skills needed to deal with a wide range of medical emergencies in the workplace.

At Forest Medical Training, our FAW courses are delivered by Paul Chandler — an instructor with over 20 years of real-world emergency response and Search & Rescue experience. Learning is practical, scenario-based, and tailored to the specific risks of your industry.

HSE Requirements

Under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, employers must ensure adequate first aid cover is available. This requires a first aid needs assessment taking into account:

  • The nature of the work and workplace hazards
  • The number of employees
  • The organisation of work (shift patterns, lone working)
  • The location of the workplace

Higher-risk workplaces or organisations with more than 25 employees are typically directed by HSE guidance towards the full FAW qualification. Contact us for free advice on your organisation's specific requirements.

Certification

  • Issued by ProTrainings — Ofqual regulated awarding organisation
  • HSE compliant — meets Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981
